Three wee, earlier he had noticed rapidly increasing dyspnoea on effort and, for a few days, su sternal effort pain. aj His previous history is that he had a severe spinal kyphoscoliosis, said to be p?sturn in origin, since childhood. He did not remember much about it. At the age of 37 ^

Intensive care and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in kyphoscoliosis: are new perspectives still needed?
Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) assists breathing and thus improves oxygenation in patients with Kyphoscoliosis. The benefits of short- and long-term intermittent nocturnal in such patients have been reported previously (improvement of vital capacity, total lung capacity, muscle strength, daytime oxygenation, exercise capacity, and pulmonary hypertension). We review this important study reportin...
متن کاملRespiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension associated with Klippel-Feil syndrome.
A 28-year-old woman with a deformed thorax and kyphoscoliosis associated with Klippel-Feil syndrome developed respiratory failure with pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary 133Xe ventilation and 99mTc-MAA perfusion scintigraphies showed maldistributions of lung ventilation and perfusion, and noticeably delayed 133Xe washout from the lungs. Dynamic breathing MR imaging showed poor and/or asynchronou...

BACKGROUND Systemic sclerosis (SSc), a progressive disease characterized by excessive accumulation of connective tissue components. Although most patients have long survival, some of them progress rapidly to death. Pulmonary system involvement and pulmonary hypertension are the most frequent cause of death. When the patient with SSc is to be operated, the anesthetic procedure could be a serious...

pulmonary hypertension is a frequent hemodynamic complication associated with a wide variety of respiratory systems disorders whose only common physiologic abnormalities are alveolar hypoxia and consequent arterial hypoxemia of longterm duration. Such disease processes include the alveolar hypoventilation syndromes, neuromuscular disorders, kyphoscoliosis, and severe obstructive lung diseases.'...
